Ebook About
The final novel in the First Law Trilogy by New York Times bestseller Joe Abercrombie. Logen Ninefingers might only have one more fight in him -- but it's going to be a big one. Battle rages across the North, the king of the Northmen still stands firm, and there's only one man who can stop him. His oldest friend, and his oldest enemy: it's time for the Bloody-Nine to come home. With too many masters and too little time, Superior Glokta is fighting a different kind of war. A secret struggle in which no one is safe, and no one can be trusted. As his days with a sword are far behind him, it's fortunate that he's deadly with his remaining weapons: blackmail, threats, and torture. Jezal dan Luthar has decided that winning glory is too painful an undertaking and turned his back on soldiering for a simple life with the woman he loves. But love can be painful too -- and glory has a nasty habit of creeping up on a man when he least expects it. The king of the Union lies on his deathbed, the peasants revolt, and the nobles scramble to steal his crown. No one believes that the shadow of war is about to fall across the heart of the Union. Only the First of the Magi can save the world, but there are risks. There is no risk more terrible, than to break the First Law. . .

Book Last Argument of Kings (The First Law Trilogy Book 3) Review :

Another average fantasy book that probably sold a ton. It seems like Abercrombie went to the Stephen King school of writing fantasy, making it all up as you go and having pretty absurd plot lines that don't mesh well into . There is a lot in the book, and the series, to talk up as some really good writing. However, the prose and character attitudes get beyond stale after reading several books about them. Glotka is a cripple and is in pain, did he mention that? Logen may be a hero or a devil, did he mention that? Ferro is after vengeance and looms in the background, did he mention that?An even bigger problem is the ongoing "GrimDark" getting grimmer and darker theme, the main them I seem to have taken from the books. Over 300 limbs cut off, 40 heads cut off and the fantasy equivelant of the Saw movie series later, you just get the sense that it all was much about nothing.Which ends up being the summary in the last pages of the book, the lack of a conclusion in a trilogy (which seems to me to be pretty important). You are basically given an ending to set up more books set in the world, like it was all just a soap opera or a video game with upcoming DLC and a season pass.
I enjoyed the first two books immensely as a R.E.Howard fan. Despite a number of voids in the story line. Characters were progressing towards some sort of personal redemption or at least coming to peace with themselves. Doubts were sown about the historical figures and the history of the world itself. World changing battles were setup between powerful leaders and factions of questionable morality and purpose. Secondary POV characters were slowly coming into their own. Then half way through the 3rd book it all goes back to mud. The ending of the 3rd book is the beginning of the 1st in a sense, the game board is reset. Characters revert to their original selves, secondary characters are left to rot. Love stories end without any closure. Any development of the characters is thrown away and the reader is left with only dark progression and reveals of all the major characters. Ultimately an unsatisfying ending to a series that had a lot of promise. Only the black hearts come out ahead in this tale, disappointing.
